Comparing boards side by side
A Comparison is its own entity, not a board — it puts up to twelve boards side by side as columns, using the three widgets built for cross-board comparison.
Two boards added; the picker and period apply to every comparison widget at once.
Creating a comparison
From the sidebar, open + New and choose Comparison ("Put several boards side by side to compare delivery metrics"). Name it, and Deckgauge takes you straight to the new comparison's page. A comparison is creator-only: only the person who created it can open, edit, or delete it — a comparison someone else created won't appear or open for you at all, not just be read-only. There's no sharing a comparison with anyone else today.
Adding and removing boards
Use the board picker at the top of the page: + Add board… offers every board you haven't already added, and each added board shows as a chip with a × to remove it. Every comparison widget needs at least two boards — with zero or one, the page shows "Add at least two boards to compare." instead of rendering. Up to twelve boards can be in one comparison set.
Which widgets support comparison
Exactly three: Compare: Review Quality, Compare: Flow, and Compare: Delivery. They're comparison-only — the regular board dashboard's + Add Widget picker never offers them. Each renders one column per board and marks any metric that can't be fairly compared across a mismatched set of connected tools, instead of showing it as if it were comparable.
If you want "are we improving" for a single board instead of several, that's a different widget: Period Comparison puts one board's own two adjacent time windows side by side, and lives on a regular board dashboard, not here.
Under the hood
The board period picker — the same 7d/14d/30d/90d/Custom control from a regular dashboard — applies across every board in the comparison at once. Adding or removing a board immediately re-fetches all three widgets for the new set; you don't need to refresh the page.
If it looks wrong
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Page says "Add at least two boards to compare." | Zero or one board is in the set | Add a second board with the board picker |
| A metric column shows as not comparable | The boards in the set use a different mix of connected tools for that metric | Expected — Deckgauge won't fake comparability; check the widget's own guide for what it needs from each board |
| Board set changed but a widget looks stale | Should not happen — widgets remount and re-fetch on any add/remove | Refresh the page; report if it persists |
| Can't open a comparison, or can't add/remove a board | You aren't the comparison's creator | Only the creator has any access to a comparison — ask them to make the change, or create your own |
