Pricing and commercial terms
This document is not published and does not apply to anyone. It is
a working scaffold: the structure is in place so that filling it in is a
mechanical pass, but the text has not been reviewed by counsel and the values
marked [TO BE FILLED IN] are unknown. Nothing on this page creates
or describes an obligation.

The free core is uncapped
The self-hosted Community edition is free, source-available under the Functional Source License, with no seat cap and no feature gating on metrics. Nothing below takes anything away from it.

Annual prepayment: two months free (about 17% off). Monthly billing is at list. Self-hosted under a commercial licence and fully managed hosting are the same price — the hosting itself is not what you are paying for, and self-hosting is the thing that makes this product different.
The comparison against the rest of the category — who publishes a price, who enforces a developer minimum, and which figures are third-party estimates rather than list prices — is on the pricing page, verified 2026-09-11. It is deliberately not restated here: two pages quoting a competitor's price from memory is how one of them ends up out of date.
The largest band has no self-serve price by design — the app shows a contact link there rather than a checkout button, because a volume rate is a conversation.
What a measured developer is
This is the number that selects your band, so it is defined precisely rather than loosely.
A person we observed activity from, in a connected tool, in the last 90 days. Activity means authoring or being assigned work we can see: commits, pull requests, reviews and issues across Jira, GitHub, GitLab and Azure DevOps. One person who appears in several tools counts once — the count is distinct people, not a sum of per-tool rows.
Your directory does not set the price
If you connect a company directory, everyone in it appears in the breakdown as context — but directory headcount is not billable. You are charged for the people we actually measured. A 500-person directory in which 40 people are shipping code is a 40-person bill.
This was not always true. Until 2026-09-05 the directory was unioned into the billable total with no activity window, so the band followed the size of the directory. It is recorded here rather than quietly corrected, because anyone who saw the old behaviour deserves to know which one is the offer.
The count is advisory, and contestable on purpose
Identity matching across four providers is imperfect and we do not pretend otherwise. The breakdown shows the per-source count and the identities we could not match, so an undercount is visible before money changes hands. When unmatched identities outnumber matched ones the app says the number is unreliable rather than quietly proposing a band.
Band changes mid-term
Never mid-term, in either direction. Your band is fixed for the period you have paid for. If the measured count crosses a boundary — up or down — the new band applies at your next renewal, and we tell you before it does.
This is deliberately the customer-friendly asymmetry: we absorb a team that grows mid-quarter rather than issuing a surprise invoice for it. A metered tool that silently upgrades you is the single most complained-about behaviour in this category, and the count that would trigger it is one we already describe as advisory. Charging automatically on a number we admit is approximate would be indefensible.
Growing far past your band before renewal is a conversation, not an automatic charge — tell us and we will sort it out.
Trial, cancellation and refunds
30 days, no card. Cancellation runs to the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds are on the refunds page.
Tax
Prices are exclusive of VAT. Codpal Limited is the seller of record, so VAT is applied at checkout where it is due. EU business customers who supply a valid VAT number are handled under the reverse charge and are charged no VAT by us; everyone else is charged at the rate for their location. Your invoice shows the treatment applied.
This is a consequence of using Stripe rather than a merchant of record. A merchant of record would be the legal seller and would carry the VAT and sales-tax obligations; with Stripe those sit with Codpal Limited. It is the one place where the Stripe decision costs something the Paddle design did not.
